Pregnant, Diagnosed With Hypothyroid. Will It Affect Baby?
Hi, I am pregant and now 16 weeks. I was infornmed in first trimester ( 10 weeks) my throid level is little less than normal and not to worry ;The next blood work can decide .. In next blood work in 15 week i shown Tsh - 0.74( ref level 034 – 5.6) Free t3- 3.27( 2.39 – 6.79) Free t 0.46( .58- 1.64) and gynec asked me to go to PCP. PCP is saying TSH and free t3 is good so nothing to worry and dont want any medication and I am hyperthyroid .. Websites say normal tsh with low free t4 is hypothyroid .I am confused.. will this affect my baby? Please suggest

With the low level of T4, your TSH levels should have been high if you are hypothyroid. You may see an endocrinologist who would look into the current picture and advice properly. You may need to be tested for anti-thyroid antibodies before prescribing any treatment. Hypothyroidism may cause low-birth weight and preterm babies and can be safely treated during pregnancy. Please discuss with your doctor for further management. Wish you good health.
