Prescribed Amoxicillin And Symbicort For Mucus In Ears And Upper Respiratory Infection. Why Is Cough Persistent?
20 year old had nasal congestion that mostly cleared up then started 8 days ago with sore throat and temp between 101-102.8. went to minute clinic and they prescribed amoxicillin for mucus in ears and upper respiratory infection. followed up with family doc 2 days later and he said it was viral like a cold and bronchitis. taking mucinex expectorant, amoxicillin. took Tylenol and advil for temps. doc also put him on simbicort inhaler and gave steroid shot in office. it has been 4 days since dr appointment and his temp is anywhere from 98.4-100.0 . ears and throat feel better. he feels better overall. just wants the cough to go away. is this a normal temp range or is this still considered a fever

A cough is a sudden and often repetitively occurring reflex which helps to clear the large breathing passages from secretions, irritants, foreign particles and microbes. Antibiotics are used to clear up the infection that caused the cough but cough itself is a reflection so it can not be cured with antibiotics. I suggest you to try some honey. It has been found to be better than no treatment in reducing cough frequency. Kind regards
