Prescribed Medroxyprogesterone To Start Periods. Now Have Heavy Bleeding And Clots. How Long Will This Last?

I was prescribed Medroxyprogesterone the end of Sept. to start my period. Around the 12th of October my period started and has not stopped yet. I just finished taking the last of the pills 3 days ago. There is heavy bleeding and large clots. How long will this last because it is almost a month and it has not slowed down?

Hi and thanks for the query,
Treatment with hormonal therapy might produce such undesirable effects at times. I would suggest you suspend the drug in case of excess bleeding and consult your gynecologist for a proper clinical review. Bleeding for almost a month, and heavily could cause severe blood loss, leading to severe anemia and this could cause anemia, which could even necessitate blood transfusions at times. I suggest you review your gynecologist. Kind regards.
