Radiography Test Done. Diagnosed As Hyperaerated Lungs. What Does This Mean?

FINDINGS: The cardiomediastinal silhouette is within normal limits. Both lungs appears hypoaerated. No focal infiltrates or consolidation is identified. The costophrenic sulci are intact. The visualized bony structures appear unremarkable. IMPRESSION: HYPOAERATED LUNGS this is the result of my radiography ,please explain what this mean? thanks...

Thanks for writing in.
Hypoaerated lungs refers to area of lung where there is reduced lung volume and poor filling of the alveoli. This can be simply because you did not take a deep breath properly while getting the Xray done.
Other causes can be restrictive lung diseases which can be due to multiple causes . If you do not have any complaints right now, I dont think you need to worry.

Hi Christ,

The X-ray finding is normal though it says Hypo aerated lungs.

Grossly, your lungs are fine but there is inadequate air that is entering and exiting from your lungs.

It is advisable to get a spirometry done and look at the pattern of your breathing.

If you do smoke, please consider quitting it. Do deep breathing exercises and practice some respiratory exercises.
