Reason For Dizziness While Taking Methotrexate, Metoprolol And Prednisone

I woke up Thursday morning so dizzy that I had to call my son (I live alone, I am 81) to help me out of bed
so I could go to the bathroom. I have never had anything like it before in my life. We got me some breakfast
(an orange and some cereal) . I got better as the day wore on. It is Saturday evening and I still feel light headed.
I have RA, diagnosed 2 years ago, and on 15 mg. of methotrexate, taken once a week. It has never bothered
me before. I am also on metoprolol, 25 mg. twice a day. I also take 5 mg. of prednisone once a day. We took
my blood pressure this afternoon (it is evening now) and it was 124 over 74. That is all I can think of right now.
I hope you can help me with this. I am wondering if I am low in some vitamin or mineral such as potassium.
I take a multivitamin, but not faithfully.
Thank you.

hi there
by your query, i can make out that you have hypertension, and rheumatoid arthritis
and though you are not regular with the multivitamins, i am hoping you take these medicines regularly.

there are a couple of aspects in your query

1. the prednisolone and metoprolol, both cause the sugars to rise. there is a faint possibility that the time you woke up, you had lower than the normally high sugars, and so you developed what is called relative hypoglycemia'
I would suggest testing your sugars, and if found high, checking your HbA1C

2. the drug metoprolol acts by lowering the heart rate. if it is too low, the condition called bradycardia may occur due to which, again you may have vertigo. So while your blood pressure is ok, what is your heart rate?

3. there is a possibility of stroke in the PCA territory. I would suggest an MRI brain to check on this.

I hope that helps
Best of luck
