I am 24 years old I weigh 173lbs. Have anxiety. Why does my chest feel tight ? Like if something sitting on my chest like the weight of a cat or something ? Is it the muscles contracting ? Is there any relief for when the tight chest comes again ?

Tight chest is a symptom of anxiety. It can be accompanied by symptoms such as sweating, palpitations, feeling of impending doom. Added to this is your weight. I would suggest you see a psychiatrist for appropriate medications and begin an exercise regimen to lose weight.

hi cynthia,thanks for query.Chest tightness could be due to muscular spasm or indigestion.Anxiety can aggravate the symptoms and lead to increase frequency of attacks.Please avoid getting anxious,take light diet,avoid high fat foods and cold drinks.Watch your weight,do regular exercise.You can apply any local analgesic that you are comfortable with.this should help if not please visit your doctor for examination.
