Scheduled For Knee Replacement Surgery, Severe Pain. No Relief With Ibuprofen, Tramodal. Medication For Pain Relief?
I am scheduled to have knee replacement surgery at the end of August. The pain, especially in the evening is very high. Yesterday, Friday, it called my Dr. to see if I could get any medicine stronger than off-the-shelf ibuprofen. The Dr. was out of the country. His PA wrote me a prescription of 50 mg of Tramodal taken 3 times per day. It has provided no better relief than the ibuprofen. I just did some research on the web. There are a number sources that indicate that the 50 mg. three times/day is just the starting point for Tramodal. There were examples of prescribing up to 400 mg. daily . Its 11:05 p.m. on Sat. night & I'm in pain. Any suggestions? I'm 68 years young and in relatively good health. I'm to have the surgery in 16 days but can't get a decent nights sleep. HELP !!!
I suggest you discuss the matter with your GP,addition of a atypical antidepressant like Trazodone may act like a hypnotic and a anti-anxiety drug.50mgms of tramadol is usually good enough in most cases of bone fracture and acute soft tissue injuries, the answer lies in not increasing the dose but allaying any anxiety and adding a hypnotic/sleep inducing pill.Drugs like Amyitriptyline will also be effective in similar situations.
