Hi Your husband is suffering either Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD). Coughing and gag like sensation may happen in GORD. Vomitting of few drops of blood happen due to Oesophagitis and ulceration. If only few drops, not repeated and huge in amount you need not worry. You can manage at home. At first life style changes like habit of smoking cigarettes, and consumption of alcoholic bereaves and very spicy foods which aggravate the situation are to be avoided. Midications include: 1) Antacids help to neutralise the acid to taken 3-4 times after food. 2) Histamine 2 receptors antagonists - Cimetidine, Ranitidine, Famotidine, capable of reducing the gastric acid output by 70 or 90 percent, can be given in divided doses. Or 3) Proton pump inhibitor - Omeprazole, pantoprazole, and lansoprazole can be given in morning empty stomach, if required extra dose to be gin in the evwning emty stomach, 4) Prokinetic medicines domperidone and metoclopramide are also helpful as they speed up the passage of food through the stomach.
