Severe Chest Congestion, Coughing. Due To Cool Weather Or Excessive Smoking?
Good morning. My husband smokes about a half a pack of cigarettes a day. He has been waking up in the morning with severe chest congestion and coughing. Could this be due to smoking? Last week on vacation we were in XXXXXX, the air was cool and dry and he said this wasn t the case. I say he needs to quit smoking but he thinks it could be due to mold in our condo. This only happens in the morning, however.
Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
I appreciate your feeling about your partner, his chest congestion and coughing may be due to irritation of smoking or allergy to fungus or pollens or viral infection.
But fact remains there smoking is definitly detrimental to health, there are many many heath hazards of smoking.
You can always suggest to quit but he has to agree to quit smoking.
As you know nicotine is addictive we always keep on saying quit smoking ,I am sure explain him and he will certainly give it a thought.
If required you can take help from professionals to help him to quit smoking.
Take Care,
Best of Luck
