Dear Sir
Thank you for writing. Vericose veins are swollen twisted and painful veins, usually blood collect in them specially when you are up right. Normally in veins, valves stop the blood from going downward and allowing them to move towards the heart. When these valves are not working as they should blood collects in them. Standing for long duration causes this condition to worsen. Other causes include congenitally defected valves,
smoking and thrombophelibitis.
Symptoms include: bulging veins. fullness, and aches. Mild swelling of ankles. Skin ulcers on ankles.
You will need to get a duplex
ultrasound of your legs to see the blood flow in them.
Usually treatment is conservative. Avoid excessive standing. raised leg position when sitting or sleeping.
Vein stripping can be used to remove the veins surgically.
Noninvasive procedures include.
laser ablation and radio frequency ablation.
Such veins tend to get worse over time and you can slow this progression by self care
Complication that can develop:
Leg ulcers. Rupture of veins.
You should see a doctor if the veins are painfull and do not improve by selfcare, if you develop
fever or
redness of the area.
I hope the information is of help.
Take care of yourself and do contact me if you need help.
