Severe Pain In Leg And Lower Back Problems. Is This Sciatica And How To Treat This?

I have unblieveable pain running down my left leg, butt all the way down to my foot, behind my knee, all down the back of my left leg. Extreame pain, I have taken Ibrophophine used ice pack and heating pad. I might think it could be Sciatica after searching the web. I have had alot of lower back problems in the past. I am 61 female, with pretty good health, I was wondering if there would be over the counter meds strong for something like this?
I rather not start with hospitals, this pain is 1000 times worst than the 3 C sections I have had.
I live in Mobile, Al, I do not have hospitalization to start with hospitals. Do you know in my area where I could get help, or what over the counter meds I could take. Any help for a senior is greatly appreciated.

Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this pain. The symptoms of this pain are suggestive of sciatica a you have rightly mentioned. However, the cause has not been established. Is it a compression of the nerves as it leaves the spinal cord by a disc? bone spur? narrowing of the spinal canal? etc...There are many questions that have not been answered and appropriate management of this condition requires that the cause be known. When there is no identifiable cause, then physical therapy and pain management would be the right thing to do.

I know you don't really like hospitals but I cannot suggest otherwise. Please, get consulted and evaluated for this pain so that you can get appropriate treatment and be relieved of this pains based on the findings.
