Severely Decaying, Chipped, Black And Blueish Plaqued Teeth. 3 Years Without Dentist. Serious Health Issues Due To This?

I have severely decaying teeth. One has rotten to the point it's chipped itself down. The others are black and blueish with plaque. I am going to get surgery this coming week. My teeth have been getting worse for 2 years now. 3 years without a dentist.

Have I put myself at risk for serious health conditions elsewhere in my body due to my negligence?

You have to be very conscious regarding your dental health is concerned.
If left untreated,it can affect your systemic health too.
Decayed or chipped teeth has to be restored.
Black and bluish teeth with plaque will be due to poor oral hygiene maintenance resulting in gum infection.

hi there

thanks for asking your query

dental tissues remains healthy if proper oral hygiene is maintained

poor oral hygiene leads to compromise of dental health

regular brushing is neccessary to remove plaque from teeth which if not removed will lead to infection in advanced stages

your history shows you had a poor oral hygiene which lead to multiple dental issues like caries, inflamation, chipping off of teeth

consult a dentist for complete treatment plan about which tooth needs to be filled, which to be root treated and which needs to be extracted and replaced by prosthesis

other than this you need to learn proper oral hygiene tips for proper brushing, flossing and dietry habits

thanks

Dear friend.

Thanks for sharing your concern.

Definately your oral health affects your general health.if you donot have healthy teeth how did you manage to enjoy food all these days?

This makes you weak as your food is not chewed well thus indigestion and stomach problems.

It might or might not be in your case but severely decayed teeth affects your heart too.

Therefore i would suggest you to maintain good oral hygiene and visit your dentist as soon as possible.

you must brush twice daily and change your brush every three months.

your tongue should be scrapped by tongue cleaner.

Frequent warm saline rinses helps to keep oral flora clean and infection free.

Hope this helps.

Take care.

Thanks.

Hello there ,

Thanks for writing your query,

Multiple decayed teeth , plaque and calculus deposits on the teeth indicates COMPROMISED oral health.

It is caused due poor oral hygiene ,improper brushing and flossing that leads to accumulation of bacterial plaque and calculus deep in the gum pockets and root surfaces of the teeth.

This leads to a condition called Gingivitis which presents with symptoms of redness , bleeding gums , swelling , pain ,recession and sensitivity.

Poor oral health definately affects general health of the patient so better get the treatment done as soon as possible.

you may need to be treated by thorough professional deep scaling of gums and root planing of the teeth to remove all the irritants ,this will help in resolving the symptoms followed by a course of antibiotic and analgesics.

i would suggest you to go for symptomatic treatment at home like gargling with lukewarm saline water or antiseptic mouthwash like chlorhexidine or betadine.

decayed teeth can be treated by restorations.

it is advisable for you to get and OPG radiograph done which will help in diagnosis and accordingly treatment can be planned.

i hope this helps ,

take care.

Hi,
Thanks for writing,

Well its never late to take a right decision. You may have ignored your oral health for years but i can assure you its completely reversible and except for some teeth, which have completely decayed, the rest can be maintained with a good future oral hygiene.

You need professional cleaning (scaling) to remove any stains or calculus from your teeth. Its important to maintain a good oral hygiene after that. The decayed teeth which might be in initial stages will be filled and the more decayed need other treatments as well.

The one of the major concerns due to poor oral hygiene is gum problems. The plaque and calculus are the important causative factors. There have been some studies where they have proved the association of periodontitis (advanced stage of gum inflammation with bone and associated structures involvement) with other systemic diseases.

Nevertheless please visit your dentist as scheduled, and please follow a strict oral hygiene routine. This includes, brushing your teeth twice daily and using floss to prevent interdental decay. Use of mouthwash and rinsing mouth after every meal .

Stay healthy,
Thank you, Dr. Tarush Thakur.
