Shin Injury, Swollen Lump, Bruising On Base Of Feet. X-ray Shows No Fracture. Treatment?
Hello! I suffered a heavy challenge on the side of the shin playing football four weeks ago that resulted in a large swollen lump - when this had not improved after a week I had it x-rayed and there is no break. It will be 4 weeks to the day it happened tomorrow and I am keen to get back on the pitch as I am running ok and there is only residual bruising at the base of my feet (I guess gravity has drawn it out ). There is still a sizeable lump on my shin however, and I am wondering if it should still be there after 4 weeks?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Mukesh Chugh's Response
Hi Thanks for your query It usually takes 4-6 week time for a bruise to resolve depending on the severity of injury. You may take trypsin/chymotrypsin along with pain killer like ibuprofen. A friendly advice is gradually, increase the duration of play once you are ready to play. To increase your bone strength takes diet rich in calcium (800-1000mg/day) and vitamin D (1000 i.u. /day). Take care Regards Dr.chugh http:bit.ly/drmchugh
