Shoudld I Be Concerned About Continuous Bleeding After Period Without Any Symptoms Of Menopause?

Hi, I am 52 year old female that has no symptoms of menopause. Since my last period I have continuous bleeding for 5 weeks. It has been light but non stop. I did go to the doctor and they did an ultra sound and biopsy. They are not sure if they go enough sample so I might have a D & C. The ultra sound showed a very thick uterine lining. I have not got the results yet of the biopsy. My question, can you say how concerned I should be? Is it just likely menopause, or guess it could be more serious? I am just a little scared waiting for results. Thank you

Hello and welcome,

These findings are very common in menopasual women. There are a lot of hormonal imbalances during menopause and so the uterus as well as the body takes time to adjust to them.

Thick enodmetrium is also not unusual. The reasons for this is mostly hormonal and simple or cystic hyperplasia [ over growth of the uterine lining]. Sometimes a cancer can be there but it is very rare.

So please do not worry. Just wait for the biopsy results. If they are not conclusive get a D and C or a hysteroscopy for further testing.

Do not be scared at all, these are very common.

Hope this satisfies your query.
