Should I Be Concerned About Cholesterol Level Being 247?
An asian women 70 years old; good health but cholesterol is 247 after recent blood test (fasting 12 hrs); doctor did not say anything ....... just reviewing Lipid profile and have concerns with the numbers. Thanks
Thanks for using healthcaremagic.I understand your concern. Brief answer:No need to much concern. Detailed answer: The reports total cholestrol/HDL ratio,HDL(good cholesterol) are within normal limits.LDL(bad cholesterol) can be considered normal if you don't have any risk factors like hypertension, smoking, obesity, family history of heart disease etc.You should really concern if you have any of the risk factors mentioned above.Triglycerides and total cholesterol levels are on the little higher side.If i am your treating doctor, would advise you initially with dietary modifications(like limiting saturated fat diet, encouraging fiber diet with fruits, vegetables etc) and increasing daily physical activity for 3 months. If no improvement in the follow up lipid profile, would consider adding statin group drugs like rosuvastatin.Hope i have answered your query.Happy to answer you.Take care.
