Should XRay Be Necessary In Case Of Persistent Pain In Wrist Post Injury?

Hello - I had a slip and fall on the ice 3 months ago and hurt my wrist. At first I thought maybe I just sprained it but it s still bad over 90 days later. I can move it with minimal pain but if I put any weight on it I have horrible pain. It hurts to even push on the spot. Should I get X-ray?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
absolutely
you might have a case of a fractured wrist bone
(a fracture that doesnt have to hurt really bad hence patients seek consult late)
or if there is not fracture it can also be a case of ligament injury

the sequence of what u should do is this
1)wrist xrays
if none was found
2) mri

Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Dr. Gopal's  Response
Hi , I have gone through your details . In my practice I will always get
x rays of the injured part since that is the only way to rule out major bony injury. So I suggest you must get an X ray ASAP.In case of wrist , there are some fractures which become apparent 2-3 weeks post injury.
