Should Antibiotics Be Continued After Lung Fluid Reduces From 800 To 250 Ml?

I had lung infection last month where my chest x-ray showed around 800ml of liuid on my right side of the lung. I then asked to take anti-biotic for 6 months. After a week , i did ultra scan where liquid reduced to 250 ml. Do i still need to take anti biotic for 6 months? It's almost 2 weeks since i took ultra scan

Hello
X ray showed 800 ml fluid in your right pleura ( lung ) .
Doctor advised you antibiotics and after a week your SCAN showed that fluid reduced to 250 ml .
In my opinion you must get in an X Ray and compare these two X rays i.e. previous one and this one and after that see the difference between amount of fluid .
Because this will shows you exact figure .
When such patient visit , I at once aspirate the fluid ( tapping or drainage ) and send this for culture and sensitivity test to find out exact reason of fluid accumulation in the lung ( pleaura ).
But if your treating physician advised treatment for 6 months , in my opinion you should complete this treatment .
Fluid accumulation in the lungs ( pleura ) may be due to these reasons , these include:
1 Tuberculosis .
2 Trauma
3 Carcinoma
There are also so many reasons , so get in culture of this fluid after needle aspiration.
2nd option consult one more physician and get his 2nd opinion.
Hope you will take it seriously .
Good luck.
