Should Contraceptive Pills Be Started At The Exact Time Of Menstrual Flow Onset?
I am 21 years old and have a 5 month old. I am starting the Norgeston contraceptive pill for the first time. It says its best to start it on the first day of your period which was today but about 8:00pm. I don't want to be locked into taking it that late everyday as it would be difficult. Can I take it tomorrow or Thursday afternoon?
Yes, you can start the Norgeston pill anytime during your period. The recommendation to start on the first day is to maximize protectiveness from pregnancy.
Also, in general that means the first 24 hours of your period - so if you were bleeding at 8 pm, then anytime the next day is good.
If you start on another day, you should continue to use condoms or another form of birth control for the first month.
And you are correct that you'd like to start it at a convenient time because you do want to take it at the same time every day.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Lisa Baker
