Should I Be Worried Of Giving 5 Tsp Of Tylenol In 2 Hours To A 9 Year Old Child?
Hi there,
My 9 year old son had his tonsils taken out 3 days ago. The doctor said it was ok to give rotating Tylenol and Ibuprofen every 3 hours. I forgot to write down the last dose, and my son came in complaining of pain. So, I gave him another dose of 2.5 tsp of Tylenol in 2 hours.(total of 5tsp) Do I need to be concerned about 5 tsp of Tylenol in 2.5 hours? Thank you! Kristy
Thanks for writing to health care magic. I can understand your concern.
That depends on the amount of paracetamol it contains. The normal dose of paracetamol is 15mg per kg of bodyweight per dose. It can be repeated four hourly with a maximum of 4 doses a day. So if you cross this grossly please contact your doctor. There is one thing that is absent in your query. You did not mention the weight of your child. Any way if you have any doubts that you gave a overdose it is better to get him checked up by your doctor once.
