Should I Consult A Doctor As My Daughter Is Having A Rash On Both Of Her Inner Thighs?
My 8 year old daughter is in year round competitive swim. 4-5 days a week. She has developed this rash (almost like little hives or bumps) on both her inner thighs. We have tried anti-itch cream and some other over the counter medicine that we rub on it at night (really odd strong smell). Is this something that she needs a viral medication for?
I would keep a possibility of Fungal Infection/Intertrigo.
If i was your treating doctor i would have asked to apply a topical anti-fungal cream e.g clotrimazole or ketoconazole or sertaconazole twice daily for 2-4 weeks.
An oral anti-fungal e.g fluconazole might be required if it is extensive.
An OTC pain killer like cetrizine once daily in the evening would relieve the itch associated with the infection
Once the fungal infection resolves, she can use an anti-fungal dusting powder regularly in that area which will not only keep the area dry but also be non-conducive for fungal growth.
take care regards
