Should I Continue With The Pill If I Have Started Bleeding, and Could There Be A Chance Of Infection After The Procedure?

I am 34, had 4 children without complications, history of rupturing cysts and painful period since I had my last children (twins 11 yrs agao) had a tubual ligation when I had the twins. I had a D & C, laporoscopy and hysteroscopy about 5 mnths ago, for polyps of the endometrium and cysts on my ovaries. - all tests came back normal, they have recently (just over a mnth and a half) on the pill to see if my pain would ease and to stop ovulation I have been informed to take it for 3 mnths and then have a cycle, I have been very vigilant with the pill - if not borderline obsessive with it.. It has been helping and there has been no pain since. The past 3 days however I have started to bleed old blood and the occasional frank red blood. should I continue with the pill, should I be concerned that since I have had that procedure there could be old blood - high chance of infection happening in my uterus. ?

Hi,

According to your history, the causes of bleeding are:
- While using the hormonal pills in early months some amount of menstrual disturbances in the form of irregular spotting can be seen due to hormonal fluctuation. And this will subside without additional treatment usually.
- If time of intake of pill is altered or if pill missed, there is possibility of spotting.
- As you have undergone the procedure 5 months back, that may not be responsible for this spotting.

Better continue the pills. But if the spotting persists, please consult your gynecologist once, get examined and go for ultrasound to rule out local causes like cervical erosion, recurrence of polyps etc and treatment can be planned accordingly.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
