Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Should We Go To The Emergency If A Branch Fell On Head And Have Minor Jaw Pain, Minimal Swelling And Reddening Of Skin In The Area?
Injured party is ~60, 270lbs in excellent health. A branch (diameter 8 inches; 10 feet long) fell from height of 15 ft and struck back left side of head (felt hat on) and left shoulder, knocking him to the ground. He did not lose consciousness, does not have a headache, had some minor jaw pain (left side) which subsided within the hour. Pupils equally reactive. Reddening of skin in injury area (easily detected as he is bald) with minimal swelling. Any value in ER visit or should we just watch for other developments?
thanks for your query, i have gone through your question, the redness and pain could be because of the impact secondary to inflammation or it could be because of any bone fracture at the site of injury. so consult a oral physician and you need to take some radiographs like OPG and PA view to rule out any fracture.. i hope my answer will help you..take care with regards Dr. Mahesh kumar T.S
