Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am taking lo loestrin fe and am on the 4th day of active pills of a new pack after taking it since december. I had mono about 2 months ago, and over the last few days of taking these active pills i have been feeling very disoriented, with chills and body aches, are these side effects of the pill?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Loestrin Fe contains ethinyl estradiol, norethindrone and ferrous fumarate as ingredients. It is a combined pill that contains female hormones that prevent ovulation along with causing changes in your mucus and uterine lining, making it harder for sperm to reach the uterus and harder for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus. Loestrin Fe is used as contraception to prevent pregnancy. Symptoms you are experiencing are minor side effects due to intake of pill. However, such side effects should subside on its own over a period of time, by about 3 months, as the pill gets adjusted to your body. In case such symptoms persist and become bothersome, it would be advisable to consult Gynaecologist and change the medication or mode of contraception, which would suit you. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best and wish you good health. Regards, Dr.Ashakiran.S., MBBS., MD.
