In an ideal setting, parkinsonism is diagnosed and treated by a
neurologist (DM in Neurology/ Neuromedicine) with the help of medications, or if indicated by
Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS- a recent development). However, in absence of a neurologist, a General medicine specialist/Internist or a
Psychiatrist can also diagnose and treat parkinsonism.
Parkinsonism is progressive deteriorating disease with no cure. Earlier the treatment is started, more is the chance of halting its progression early and improved prognosis.
