My son was laying down in bed and i heard him say My tooth i turned around and it was his silver cap. Just his cap not his tooth. He says it doesnt hurt him it just feels funny. A month or so back he was eating chips and I know he didnt chew it correctly and he poked himself. After that i started to see a redness on the side of his gum (right where the cap fell off) i put baby orajel on it and gave him tylenol the redness went away so did the swelling . I have no clue what to do its already late to go to a dentist is there anything i can do till the morning? Im freaking out!
Hello there, that's quite usual.....crown getting dislodged. There are various reasons. If the retention is not good it gets dislodged. Check out from your dentist if the same can be retained or requires a change of crown. It's adviced to get it restored.
Hello,
Thanks for writing in.
I read your problem, it seems that his cap became loose and because of food lodgement there is infection in that area.
So i will suggest you visit to a pedodontist as soon as possible and get the thorough examination done and take a proper treatment.
Nothing to get worried,it is still not too late.

If dental crown of your tooth came out, then you should call your dentist asap and schedule an appointment with him. Don’t keep the loose dental crown in your mouth as you may accidentally swallow it. Dental crown can become loose and can come out because of decay below dental crown, lack of tooth structure to hold dental crown, if dental crown is ill fitting, more stresses and forces on dental crown or excess of sticky foods. Dental crown can also fall if permanent cement which is used by dentist is not of good quality or because of wear of dental crown which can cause percolation of fluids in dental crown and fall of dental crown.By the time, you get it fixed; you can avoid eating from that side of the mouth and keep that area clean to avoid any secondary infections.
Hello
Welcome to HCM
I went through your query & would like to tell you that might be due to some biting force or occlusal stress your son's cap has dislodged. There can be some other reasons also like lack of retentive features in crown or faulty cap.
What all you need to do is consult your dentist & get it replaced. It can be placed again depending upon condition of cap.
Take Care
