Skin Red, Painful Where IV Was Placed. Is This Normal?
I am curious, I had an IV placed Monday morning. It was removed Monday afternoon. Tuesday night? I believe, I noticed that the vein where the IV had been was reddened on the skin. I asked my doc about it on Wednesday and she didn't seem concerned. It is red again and it still hurts. Is this normal? Should I get it checked out?
Hello, Welcome to Healthcaremagic. From your query i understood that you are suffering from Superficial thrombophlebitis. It is due to the recent use of Intravenous line. It may be due the irritation of the drug used for IV therapy. Warm moist packs and Pain killers are helpful in relieving pain. Thrombophob ointment contains heparin and benzyl nicotinate. This helps in reducing thrombophlebitis by preventing clots and increasing blood supply. Do not get worried. Have these ointment and painkillers. hope this helps. Take care.
