Sleep Problems, Prescribed Trazodone, Decrease In Urine. Treatment?
lThankyou, I am an 85 year old white male. My problem is: Reciently I went to ;Doctor Watkins at Family Practice here in Fairhope. We discussed my sleep problems.I used to take Ambien and quit because the insurance carrier gave the Dr. a hard time about it. I havn't had a good nights sleeps for weeks. Dr. Watkins prescribed Trazodone 50 MG. for one each night before bed time. I took it and had a reverse effect. I just could not settle down and turn off my brain. I noticed a decrease in my urine. Yesterday was my 4th dose and today I have not had any urine to speak of. With difficulty I passed about 4 oz. 3 times. I am stopping the medication and wondering what to do. Called Dr. Watkins and gave all info. to the operator and she said someone would call me. That was this morning and here it is 9 PM and I am not sure what to do. Stanley Hodgin, 251-0000
** 1. Trazodone is oral antidepressant and although lower in anticholinergic side effects, trazodone should be used cautiously and with close physician supervision in people, especially the ELDERLY (85 years in your case), who have benign prostatic hypertrophy, urinary retention, and glaucoma and one of the ADR [adverse drug reaction] is inappropriate secretion of ADH (anti diuretic hormone) causing urinary problem. 2.Your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if the side effect continue or is bothersome or if you have any questions about them.
