Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Slowed Down Physical Exercises, Loss Of Energy, Hypertension. Why Is This Happening?
I'm 26 and a software engineer. I used to an athlete but with time all the martial arts activities has slowed down because of the work commitments. The serious issue nowadays is even if I manage to sleep for 8-9 hours at night, when I wake up I feel total energy-less. That wasn't the case couple of years ago when I use to sleep for only 6 hours and still used to be energetic whole day long without beating a sweat. I need to mention here that last year, I suffered from hypertension, insomnia and high blood pressure but now I'm doing good since 6 months, except the energy problem mentioned above. Is my body not responding well to the change?
Thanks for your health concerns. Deconditioning from being less physically active, particularly when you were competitive, could be a cause of persistent fatigue; medications for hypertension can also have that side effect; sleep disorders, including insomnia that you were diagnosed with but also obstructive sleep apnea and hypoventilation are known causes of fatigue. Several metabolic disorders, such as hypothyroidism and diabetes can present with fatigue.
I enocurage you to seek medical attention to explore some of these possibilities with your physician.
Hope that is helpful, wish you the best health, blessings,
Dr Brenes Salazar MD
