Small Child, Blocked Nose, Snoring At Night. Prescribed Nuklast Drops. Side Effects Of Drug?

My son who is 9 months old has been prescribed NUKLAST drops for 1 month his nose block and persistent snoring in night. It has been effective to an extent, so should we continue this medicine after 1 month? are there any serious side-effects of this drug for babies? Your kind reply would be helpful. Thanks

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

I presume NUKLAST contains the salt monteleukast, which is used for treatment of asthma and allergic rhinitis. I would refrain from giving this medicine to an infant till there is evidence of allergy to an item which cannot be avoided from the infant's environment.

A simple saline nasal drop would have helped to clear the blocked nose. Secondly continuous use of nasal medication can also lead to nasal discharge which is known as rhinitis medicamentosa. As an alternative you can try steam inhalation.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Regards,

RKK
