Small Hernia Above The Belly, Pain While Moving Or Standing. What Does This Mean?
hello I went to the E.R. and they told me I had a small hernia and I was to contact my DR. when my Dr.seen me she said she didnt feel the hernia which it is still sensetive in that area (right above my belly button) at times I still feel pain when moving or standing around to long..What does thid mean? Is the hernia gone?
Hi, These are the symptoms of a paraumbilical hernia. This is a small protrusion of tissue through a weakness in the muscles and ligaments of the abdominal wall near the belly button. It can cause pain and discomfort when the tissues become trapped and you may be able to feel a small lump. The hernia is unlikely to have disappeared but if it is very small and there was no tissue trapped in it when your doctor examined you, then it may be difficult to feel. The most common treatment for painful hernias is surgery. It involves a minor operation to repair the hole in the muscles and this will cure the problem. Regards, Dr K A Pottinger, MBChB FRCA
