Hello.

Thanks for writing to us.
A lump in the neck is most likely to be an enlarged lymph node. It is not likely to be related to the pregnancy. A direct examination is needed to know the nature of teh lump and to comment whether a surgical removal is needed or not. You can take a second opinion in person for clarification.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.

General & Family Physician Dr. Shanthi E 's  Response

Hi Thomas,

There is a systematic way to go about the lump in the neck.

First, we need to confirm the diagnosis of the lump. This can be done by a FNAC of the tissue from the lump. Based on the FNAC finding, further decision can be taken whether to remove it or not.

This may happen after pregnancy. The need for the operation will be decided upon the FNAC finding.

Please look for rapid changes in the size of the lump either increase or decrease in the size.

There is no need to panic.

Things will be fine soon.

Wishing your wife a speedy recovery.

Regards,
Dr. Shanthi

Hello
thanks for using Health Care magic .

I would be pleased to answer your question

Lump in the neck , specially after delivery will need to be checked whether it is from the lymph node , thyroid or some tumor growth . It is not common to see the lump after pregnancy . They might need to take a sample from the tissue by fine needle aspiration technique and send the cells for study in the pathology department .
Thanks and Take care
