On the basis of information provided it appears that you have developed abscess aroud tonsil - called as peritonsillar abscess( Complication of acute tonsillitis)- this will require drainage and intravenous antibiotics for few days. On the basis of history it do not appear to be cancer but examination of tonsil by a ENT surgeon must be planned. I wouls advise you to abstain from smoking and drinking for the time being as this will aggravate your problem and delay the response of medications. Once this is treated and the pain is relieved you will reuire removal of tonsils - about 6 to 8 weeks after remission. I hope this answers your concerns.
