Spongy Swelling On Elbow. Can It Be A Bite? Why Is It Red?
I have just returned from holiday in South of France. On Wednesday morning I woke up to find a large spongy swelling on my elbow . I would say nearly 4 inches in diameter but absolutely painless. There appears to be a red mark at the centre which may indiicate a bite. It appears to be getting smaller very gradually over the last 3 days. Any idea what could have caused this. I do not normally have any allergic reaction to insect bites although I am prone to being bitten. Thanks for your advice
Thanks for the question,
Elbow bursitis, also called olecranon bursitis, causes fluid to collect in a sac that lies behind the elbow, called the olecranon bursa. A bursa is a slippery, sac-like tissue that normally allows smooth movement around bony prominences, When a bursa becomes inflamed, the sac fills with fluid. If this is infected then it causes pain.
Better to consult with orthopedic surgeon also and meanwhile apply burden gel and avoid trauma on elbow.
Bye for now
