Pain In The Elbow After An Injury. Swelling. No Relief From Pain Killers. No Fracture In X-ray. Do I Have Elbow Bursitis?

Hi,
I am a 31 year old male. On 17 Nov 2012, i fell from my motorbike and got a mild injury at right elbow tip, for few days approx 30-40 days i had very little pain at the tip of my elbow, but after that the pain gradually increased.
Now it is almost 6 months still I feel the pain. I have a swelling at the tip of elbow. I took NSAID Tablets, but it gave temporary relief. The x-ray shows no fracture, but a quite noticeable swelling at the tip of the elbow. Now my question is that - I am having "elbow bursitis" or triceps tendonitis. I get pain when ever there is a stress on the elbow.

Hi,
It seems you are hit exactlyon the point at the tip of elbow-where a radial branch of nerve is superficial.it's a nerve injury,It's good that you do not have a fracture.
the manegment should include-
-rest to the part. avoid stress to the joint.
-to control pain &inflammation-you can take a combination of ibuprofen+Pacetamol+serratopeptidase. I usually give BIozobid plus when it's an inflammation&pain after an injury.
-if there is fever antibioticare to be added with doctors consultation
-B12 is tonic for a nerve. so B12 in tab(5mg. twice aday) or inj. form would be best.
- to support the possible bone weakness 500mg calcium with vit. D tab should be taken daily.
-Vit C 500mg daily will hassen the healing .
Please don't worry &take care.

Hello dear,

The case history as mentioned in your post suggest that there is persistence of soft tissue injury in the elbow joint which is causing recurrent pain on stress.

Though temporary relief may be obtained by taking NSAIDs, the cause of pain has to be treated to prevent recurrence.

Whether it is an inflammation of bursa (elbow bursitis) or tendon (triceps tendonitis) can be diagnosed only by a proper physical examination & investigations like MRI of the elbow joint.
Sometimes X ray is not able to pick up the soft tissue injury, however the swelling indicates presence of inflammatory process.

Management usually involves:
1. Rest to the part & avoidance of stress.
2. Heat therapy
3. NSAID
4. Physiotherapy & exercises.

So, kindly consult an Orthopedician & get a proper physical examination done.
