Sprained Ankle. Severe Pain, Fever And Nausea. Treatment?
I was plain basketball a year and a half ago and sprained my ankle. The Doctor said it was a grade 2 ankle sprain. I did everything i was told and have been working through it ever since. I returned home and have seen a new doctor because the pain has gotten worse (I had done a lot of running the week before) he gave me some more rehab to do and naproxen to take. I'm going back in two weeks to eventually get an MRI. He thinks it will have to be repaired because of how long it has been and not healed. He did say I could run on it as long as it wasn't hurting (since I've been running on it for a year) however, after I ran last night, I came back home and I think I have had a fever and nausea for about two days now. That's never happened before. Was wondering what I should do if the fever and nausea don't go away? Thanks
Hello. Thanks for writing to us. The presence of a severe pain with fever after a sprained ankle could be due to a bone injury in the area, a hematoma formation with an infection. You need to have proper antibiotics and an X-ray to detect the cause. I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you. Regards, Dr. Praveen Tayal , drtayal72@gmail.com
