Sprained Finger With Pain. Difficult To Bend. Need To See A Doctor?
I believe I sprained my 2nd finger on my right hand turning some valves that where stuck, I noticed some swelling in the knuckle area and the finger is stiff and hard to bend with some pain in the finger. I have been icing it and soaking in epson salts. This occured 4 days ago. What treatment should I use and should I visit a doctor?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello,
Thanks for writing to us.
From description it seems to be soft tissue injury or ligament injury.
You need an x-ray to rule out any bony injury(chip fracture).
I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination. You may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance.
Beside icing and elevating it, you can take anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain and inflammation. Avoid lifting weight and rest well.
Hope this information helps you.
Wishing you good health...
Regards.
Dr Saurabh Gupta.
