Stabbing Pain Below Belly Button, Near The Hip Bone. Aspirin Offering No Relief. What Does This Indicate?

I've been having a pain to the left of belly button and down a little, near my hip bone. I woke up in the middle of the night with it and couldn't fall back asleep because of it. It went away after an hour and then when i woke back up it was there but not as bad. Throughout the day it seems to get worse at times. It feels like im being poked with a sharp object from the inside out. I took aspirin but that didn't seem to do anything. I would like to know what this si and if its serious and if i should seek help.

Hi thanks for your question.
The site of your pain is called as loin or left iliac fosa in medical terms. The pain at this usually arises from your intestine, kidney or ureter. This pain could also be due to increase acid put in you stomach. This type pain is usually spasmodic and will not respond to aspirin and if the origin is from stomach Aspirin will aggravate it. Urinary tract infection can also give rise to pain at this site. I would suggest you to consult a physician who may examine you to locate exact site of pain and may be able to determine cause of pain. You may need certain investigations like urine examination and ultra sound abdomen to determine etiology of this pain. Treatment depends upon the cause of pain. Mean while if pain is unbearable you can take any antispasmodic medicine like buscopan
Hope this answers your question.
