Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Sudden Heart Palpitations. Heart Monitor Shows Extra Heartbeats. Serious?
All of a sudden about a week and a half ago, I started experiencing Heart Palpitations. I went to the doctor the other day and they placed a heart monitor on me for 24 hours. It reveals extra heartbeats. Is this something I should be really concerned about? I have an appointment with Cardiologist tomorrow and not sure what to expect.
Dear Sir/Madam Thanks for your query. 1. If you ever had loss of consciousness/ blackout/ dizziness associated with palpitation? If yes, you need to see your cardiologist on priority. 2. Most of the palpitations are premature contractions or extra beats. We only need to get an ECHO done. If ECHO is normal, There is nothing to worry. In most case scenarios either no treatment is required or a single drug will suffice. 4. In the meantime, avoid coffee/tea/smoking/ stress. Anti-asthma medication/ anti cold medication/ thyroid disorders may also cause palpitations. Feel free to discuss further. Sincerely Sukhvinder
