Suffered An Arm Injury Due To Fall, Swelling, Numbness From Wrist To Fingers. Will Icing Help?
Hello, last night I fell on my front porch and used my hands to break my fall. Mu hand instantly statted swelling up from my wrist to my knuckles and at first i was not able to move my fingers. This morning I woke up with less pain but still swollen. What should I do. Will icing it make it go away or could it be something more serious
Hello
Thank you for your query. A fall on an out stretched fore arm and hand can lead to fractures. The swelling is a sign of soft tissue damage but given the fact that I am not there to exam you in person, I would like to know the following
Can you feel your finger tips,
Can you feel the pulse on your wrist ( not using your thumbs)
If either if these are yes then that's a good sign.
However we cannot exclude a wrist fracture as yet and given your swelling ( if you had ice on it overnight) I would suggest , Continue the ice , elevate the forearm to help the swelling go down, go see a doctor for a. X-ray requisition and take some ibuprofen to help reduce the swelling.
