Suffering From Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Crashes During Periods. Advice?
I am a 44 year old female and have been living with ME/CFS for ten years. Although I have made much progress with my immune system and overall fatigue, I have "crashes" almost every time I have a period. My question is: Now that it is a known fact that a dysfunction in the HPA axis is responsible for a lot of the neuro-endocrine part of this illness, why can't I find a neurologist or endocrinologist that can help with this?
It is normal to have "crashes" of severe fatigue every time you have a period. Please bare in mind that periods are associated with bleeding (i.e. loss of blood). Bleeding itself causes weakening of immune system, which is aggravating your symptoms.
Besides, you are entering the menopause stage of your life, and it is normal to have such fatigue and "crashes" due to hormonal changes.
At this point, you can work with an endocrinologist to start any therapy or adapt some changes in your lifestyle for such dysfunction.
Hope it helped!
