Suffering From Headache For Years. MRI Of Neck Done. What Does The Finding Mean?

Hi, I am a 35 year old female who is 5ft tall and weight 110lbs. I have suffered with headaches for over 10 years (which have turned into daily) and now migraines for the past 2 years. I have tried Botox as well as numerous medications and nothing has worked. I seem to have side effects to everything. A few weeks ago I had a MRI of my neck done and these are the findings...Can you help me understand them? C2-C3:Right paracentral c2 disc-osteophyte complex which indents the right ventral thecal sac, but does not result in deformity of the spinal cord or significant spinal canal stenosis. Mild facet arthropathy. C3-C4: Right paracentral/right lateral c3 disc protrusion which partially effaces the right ventral subarachnoid space and results in mild narrowing of the right c3 neural foramen. C4 through C7 interspaces: Diffuse disc bulges and mild facet arthropathy results in mild spinal canal stenosis at these levels. No significant neural foraminal narrowing. No evidence for cervical spinal cord signal abnormality. The visualized upper thoracic spine is normal. Thanks for any help Shannon

Hello
Thanks for writing to HCM

According to reports your have degenerative disease of spine

1. At C2-3 level you have osteophyte in right paracentral position with mild facet(bony joint)arthropathy.Osteophytes form due to chronic stress on annulus fibrosis.
2.At C3-4 level, there is disc protrusion in right paracentral region which is causing mild narrowing of the right C3 neural foramen.
3.From C3-7 level there is disc bulge with mild spinal canal stenosis. No significant neural foramen narrowing.
Treatment includes physiotherapy or surgical.
Effectiveness of both modalities are same. So,physiotherpay should be tried first. It causes strengthening of Para spinal muscles and it prevents further changes.
Surgery should be the last option.
There are also medicines available for pain relief.
Get well soon.

Take Care
