Hiccup is the reflex which causes a strong contraction of the diaphragm followed about 0.25 seconds later by closure of the vocal cords, which results in the classic "hic" sound.
Hiccups may occur individually, or they may occur in bouts. The rhythm of the hiccup, or the time between hiccups, tends to be relatively constant.

The major Causes are-
1. Rapid eating
2. Intense emotions such as fear, anxiety, excitement, joy or euphoria
3. Carbonated beverages, alcohol, dry breads, and some spicy foods.
4. Laughing
5. For clearance of air in stomach.
6. In rare cases it can also be associated with some diseases like diabetes, electrolyte imbalance in body, kidney disorders etc.
If you can be more precise about the occurance of his hiccups than it would be easier to reach. In fact in homeopathy there are very good medicines for hiccups like argentum nitricum and nux vomica..but consult the doctor before taking it.
