Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic
Hypertension can be classified as primary (there is no obvious cause) or secondary (the
high blood pressure is due to another condition such as abnormal levels of certain hormones in the body)
Most persons have
primary hypertension and in general blood pressure rises as we age.
The reason that hypertension is called the 'silent killer' is because persons can have elevated blood pressure, experience no symptoms, but the high pressure is causing damage to various organs such as the kidneys or heart.
Some persons who are over weight or
obese, if their weight is normalised or reduced by at least 10% may experience a decrease a blood pressure and they may be able to reduce the number of medications used, though they are not eliminated completely.
Usually the reason blood pressure becomes controlled on medication is because the medication is working, if it is stopped the blood pressure will rise and the person may not know because there are usually no symptoms (unless really high).
The risks of uncontrolled high blood pressure are greater than than the risks of taking medication.
If he is experiencing side effects of the medication , his doctor can switch him to medication that he can tolerate.
The use of high
blood pressure medication does not impact on the need to use antibiotics.
I hope this helps
