I have noted your father's symptoms. He is most probably suffering from
obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
In this condition, there is obstruction to free passage of air while breathing at nights, leading to frequent sleep disruptions.
CPAP device is the standard treatment for OSA. However, it needs to be titrated under the guidance of a neurologist/pulmonologist.
In addition,
weight loss, if
overweight, would also help.
