Hi. my dad has a chronic cough, with flem and pain in ribs. he is also experiencing heart palpitations. he has had x-ray and there was something at base of lung, the doc said it may have been pneumonia. he is due for another x-ray, he says he has all food tastes the same. Je is astmatic and suffers from allergies and is on medication?
Since how many days has he been suffering from cough?
Many causes for chronic cough like: 1. In resolving pneumonia 2. Tuberculosis 3. COPD 4. ILD 5. Chronic bronchitis 6. Chronic allergies
If cough has existed for more than 8 weeks then it is called chronic cough. Use antibiotics like Azithromycin 500 mg once a day on first day followed by 250mg once a day for your days. Use bronchodilators like tab.deriphylline twice a day for five days. Use syrup ascoryl two teaspoons thrice a day for five days.
If no improvement please consult with your treating physician he will examine and treat you accordingly.
