Suggest An Alternative Of Insulin To Keep Blood Sugar Under Control

Respected Sir, My Father who is 76 yrs is having Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. The doctor has advised him Insulin Univia Mix with the dosage 20-0-10 and the tablet Glynase MF 1-1-1 before food. But my father is refusing to take the insulin since the injection pains him. He is only taking the tablets. His Postprandum blood sugar level is 293 now. Kindly advise medications to control his blood sugar levels other than insulin.

Hi,

Since his age is 76, insulin is the best treatment. Check for his fasting and post prandial sugar level along with liver and renal function tests. This will help in choosing other suitable drug for him.

You can try voglibose 0.2mg with food. This will help in reducing post prandial sugar level. Continue insulin and glynase mf need to be adjusted based on his investigations.

Hope this helps you.
Regards
