Suggest Cause For Burning Hands

I have a burning sensation it the tops of my hands which seem to have followed the pain I had in my elbow traveling down the left side of my left arm when my palms are side up. It s been this way for about 6 weeks now I have the same symptoms in my right arm. the stiffness and pain actually wake me up in the middle of the night. been taking naproxen sodium around the clock for over a week now. I am concerned about taking medicine over the counter as much as being prescribed. Is there something more serious going on that I should see a Dr. I am 51 year old female....should I just write it off as a natural change of growing older?

Hi,
I have gone through your query and I would say, it is not due to age.
If you have a burning sensation, more so in the palms, it could probably be neuropathy. However, if you feel the pain moving from your shoulders, and increasing with moderate home work, it could be spondylosis.
I would usually suggest an X-ray if it were to be spondylosis.

In your case, I strongly suspect peripheral neuropathy due to decreased essential vitamins. Normally I would prescribe B-complex vitamins along with folic acid for a month and follow up later on the symptoms. If the pain is severe, I would prescribe NSAID pain killers to reduce, especially in the night.

Your concern for taking Over the counter medicines is appreciable. B complex vitamins do not have any side effects or toxicity. You can get a prescription from your doctor

Along with it a improved nutrition should improve your overall symptoms. If you having feelings of stiffness, try moderate exercise.
