Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am in the middle of spinal decompression treatments which have relieved my back pain. MRI shows lumbar spine arthritis and degenerative disks. I went for treatment when I suddenly fell because of my right leg losing strength. I have felt better but just today my right knee gave out when I tried to go up the stairs; the leg had gotten sleepy. I got up and went to sit down. After a minute or so, I got up and went upstairs with no problem. What to do from the nutritional point of view as well as isometric exercises. I am 77 years old and weigh 210. Take Benicar, Flomax and Cardizem to control my blood pressure which they do.
Medication like methylcobalamine with muscle relaxant and analgesic will reduce pain; you can take them consulting your treating doctor.
You may consult physiotherapist for further guidance. He may start TENS, or ultrasound which is helpful in your case.
I will advise to check your vit B12 and vit D3 level.
MRI shows disc compressing on nerve root then surgical decompression is permanent solution. If weakness worsens then you need decompression early.
Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.
Take care.
