Suggest Effective Use Of Gastric Pacemaker

I am a 63 year old woman and had a total colectomy with a J pouch in 2110. (only one major block..2112) April of last year I had the Fondiplication surgery and have such trouble with extremely slow motility. (Food just sits in my stomach all day in a big hard ball. I am having the gastric pacemaker put in in two weeks and have been reading the comments from people who have it and they all mention adjustments. How, exactly are these adjustments done and is it invasive? Thank you so much for your time. Deborah Prioste

hello,
1) From when you started developing symptoms of slow motility in relation to fundoplication surgery? You underwent gastric fundoplication surgery possibly for hiatus hernia. In this surgery, esophago-gastric junction is strengthened by wrapping part of stomach around it. Some times this wrapping is little tight and produces symptoms as suggested by you. In extreme of these situations it require revision of surgery
2) Gastric pacemaker is for artificially stimulation of muscles of stomach to propel food into small bowel. This is useful in variety of disease responsible for gastroparesis. Gastroparesis is slow emptying of stomach content into small bowel and generally problem is at lower most end of stomach (not at esophago-gastric junction). Pacemaker is ket below fat in abdominal wall after putting small incision.
3) Symptoms of gastroparesis and symptoms after fundoplication surgery both are different entity as both affect different part of stomach and both has different treatment options
