Hi..i want to know what can be done for newborn with symptoms of goldenhar syndrome..The nose is blocked, with heart failure and kidney problem and possibly underdevelop brain too..he was born 7 days ago..is there any possibility of hope for the baby? please do help. thank you so much
Hello, As you are aware Goldenhar syndrome can be associated with abnormalities of the face as well as internal organs. Which abnormalities an infant has varied from patient to patient. Reconstructive surgeries can correct malformed facial features. Surgical operations are usually spread out over months or years(depending upon what needs to be repaired).
Has your son had any brain imaging? If he does have a brain problem, it is imperative that he be evaluated by a pediatric neurologist and a developmental pediatrician as soon as possible. They will want to follow him as he grows, also. The national organization in USA known as FACES can refer you to a Craniofacial Center near where you live. These centers have experienced physicians who can give him the proper treatment. They can also provide you with contact information of families who have a child with the same diagnosis as yours. Congratulations on the new addition to your family. Many babies with Goldenhar's can grow up to have a normal lifespan.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
